Product Design

These prototype desk/drawer unit was constructed as part of my final to Design 1100. This class could also be seen as my intro to design. I used to conflate design and art together, however through this class and the readings assigned to us I have realized how art and design vary. While being creative can play a role in a design more often it is based on the requirements of users.

Designers can use their creativity to meet the needs of the consumer, but a designer must always keep those needs in mind. Art on the other hand is more about the artist fulfilling their own goals for their own work.

With all of that out of the way, here is my design for a shelving unit to be used by designers/artists/or anyone with a lot of small tools like pencils and Exacto knives.
